Jack n' Dougal

Dougal watches me from the shadows...

he is eating from his giant pig bonanza meal that I gave him and Jay-Jay-Le-Jay (as he is currently known) earlier this evening. They got giant lettuce leaves, a carrot, a tomato, pepper, a little bit o melon and a little bit o orange. I don't know where Jay-Jay is. Anyway this morning I cleaned them out and decided that BigD could do with a little more forced socialisation, so I took down his lurking tent and forced him to watch the full horror of the cage being cleaned out. And he loved it. He was popcorning all over the place in excitement. It was such a happy sight.

I like the feeling of guineapigs running over my feet, they are so soft and warm.

Reunited

I really missed my boys when I went to London this weekend. They were babysat though, and were still alive when I returned. They seemed thirsty though, for some reason one of their food bowls had been filled with water instead of the water bottle. And they didn't understand the concept. Well they're fine now. Jack is his usual happy self. He would let me step on him if I liked, he let me nuzzle him with a foot this morning.

neglecting my duties

been busy all day. Of course they got fed and hayed and all, but I didn't stick around to see the joyful results.

A happier Dougal

Today has seen further improvement in the Behaviour of the Rear Admiral. Not only today did he not bolt to the cave in fear the minute he saw me, he actually came out to see what was happening when I was cleaning the cage. Definately he is a lot shyer than Jack, who thinks that cage cleaing is THE most exciting thing in this world.

I cleaned out their pen proper today with disinfectant and all, and they are now living in luxury again. And I forced them both down for cuddles today. I had planned to let them run wild and free in International The Jack and Dougal Day Of Fun, but due to me working myself far too hard (and not feeling too great that was postponed)

This evening I gave them a whole corn on the cob to munch on. It was like throwing a cabybara carcass into a shoal of crazed piranhas.

The socialisation of Dougal

lately my dear D has been reaching new heights of anti-social behaviour. While Jack is now the friendliest little chap, Dougal seems to be permanently lurking in the caves, and won't come out if I'm even just in the room. He never used to be that bad either. Last night I needed a cuddle so I dug him out of his hideaway and brought him downstairs to cheer myself up. He is a lot calmer if he's not being held in my room, probably because he can't plan his escape routes.
I cuddled him for ages and ages and he ran up my jumper and snuggled in.

Awwwww!!!

And when I put him back down in the pen he didn't just run as fast as he could for the nearest cave either, he scampered around a bit and didn't look frightened at all. So my new plan is to cuddle him everyday, in the hope that he'll get used to me. It could be because my mum didn't cuddle them very much that he's gotten so shy. But now I'm back and determined to make them snuggle up.

In other news Dougal's toe seems fine, and Jack is chipper as ever.

I love guinea pigs!!!

So tired I could die

But here goes anyway.
Today I weighed Dear J&D. Jack was down a little to 2lb 90z, while Dougal was down to 2lb 8.5oz. So all is fine there.

I clipped their nails today and noticed that poor Dougie had torn one of his nails! It looked sore, but it wasn't bleeding properly, and definately isn't slowing him down any. I'll keep an eye on it, but should be fine. he looked so cute all wrapped up in his towel like a baby.

He seems to have become even more reclusive though, but that might just be in comparison to Jack who doesn't run away from anything anymore.
